Realness Institute and Netflix extend 2022 Episodic Lab application deadline

Realness Institute, in partnership with Netflix, has extended calls for applications for the 2022 Episodic Lab and Development Executive Traineeship (DET) programs. Online submissions from African writers will now close on January 21, 2021. These programs are aimed at mid-level television and film professionals.

The Episodic Lab aims to develop story concepts by screenwriters from South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, while the DET offers African producers an opportunity to hone their story development skills. Episodic Lab and DET 2022 will take place online from May 1 to July 31, 2022.

Both programs are closely supervised and mentored by highly skilled and experienced story experts and creative producers, while also leveraging the expertise and guidance of the Netflix team. Each of the twelve selected participants (six per program) will receive a monthly stipend of $2,000 for this period to cover living expenses, allowing them to focus on developing their story concept.
